Zaiwalla & Co was founded in 1982 by our senior partner Sarosh Zaiwalla
Zaiwalla & Co has over 30 years’ experience in international arbitration and litigation. Founded in 1982 by Senior Partner Sarosh Zaiwalla to specialise in shipping law and arbitration, today the firm is a boutique outfit focusing on both litigation and arbitration. Based in Chancery Lane, in the heart of the legal district in the City of London and close to the Royal Courts of Justice, the firm acts for both domestic and overseas clients including corporations and state entities, as well as individuals.
Our small size enables us to make decisions quickly, moving fast to capitalise on new areas of law opening up. As a result, we attract pioneering legal work: For example, we were the first (with Clifford Chance) to enter the international legal market in China.
That pioneering spirit is reflected in cases such as Bank Mellat v HM Treasury where Zaiwalla & Co acts for the Bank and a case which features in The Lawyer’s “Top 20 global disputes in the English Courts 2015". In October 2015 a well-publicised High Court ruling found that the Bank’s damages claim of US$ 4 billion against the United Kingdom can proceed.
In addition to enviable technical expertise, the firm offers clients the same service and effectiveness of a magic circle firm at far lower rates using flexible billing arrangements. The firm's fee rates are around 40% lower than larger City firms for lawyers of comparable expertise.
The firm also offers clients fixed monthly retainers for solicitors’ fees, enabling clients to effectively manage their litigation budget.
