Irina Bokova v Associated Newspapers Limited [2018]  EWHC 320 (QB)

On 21 February 2018 the High Court determined by way of a preliminary issue the meaning of articles published in the Daily Mail and MailOnline, in a libel action brought by Irina Bokova. At the time of publication of the articles, 13 April 2016, Ms. Bokova was the Director-General of UNESCO and a leading candidate to replace Ban Ki-Moon as United Nations Secretary-General. A further application by Ms. Bokova to strike out the defence of truth and other parts of the defence was adjourned to a later date.
