We are delighted to announce the promotion of Kartik Mittal to Partner, marking the Firm’s second internal partner promotion of the year, doubling its total number of partners to four.

Kartik has been with the Firm for over 10 years, gaining experience in commercial litigation and arbitrations. During this time he has been instructed on two groundbreaking Supreme Court cases both featured in The Lawyers’ List of the Top 20 Cases of the Year - Jivraj v Hashwani and Bank Mellat v HM Treasury, the latter of which returns to the High Court today in a damages claim of £1.25 billion against the UK government following a Supreme Court finding that the UK Government had unlawfully imposed sanctions on the Bank.

This matter is one of the largest ever claims in the London commercial courts. Kartik’s experience has positioned him as one of the leading lawyers concerning sanctions related disputes.

Kartik is a dual-qualified lawyer in India and the UK, having practiced in both jurisdictions in addition to the United Arab Emirates.

Commenting on his appointment, Kartik said: “The Firm has been at the forefront of sanctions disputes and I look forward to continuing to build the Firm’s expertise in the field, as well as contributing to its highly regarded litigation and arbitration practices.”

Founder and Senior Partner, Sarosh Zaiwalla, commented: “We are delighted to be promoting Kartik to the partnership, our second organic promotion this year. Kartik has been with the Firm for over 10 years and during that time has positioned himself as one of the leading sanctions dispute practitioners.”
